Promoting innovative Learning Approaches for the Teaching of Natural sciences

PLATON aspires to provide teachers and school communities with a coherent teachers’ training framework which will update their current teaching practices. More particularly, PLATON aims to offer an open and innovative training framework to teachers of primary and secondary education which will focus on interdisciplinary and inquiry learning as well as the collaboration between teachers of the same school unit. This way the project will strengthen the profile of the teaching profession by providing teachers with the necessary training that will allow them to master the use of inquiry learning in their everyday teaching and the necessary tools for involving their students in interdisciplinary activities where meaningful learning occurs as they consciously and explicitly link their new knowledge to an existing knowledge structure.

The PLATON Methodology

Updating teachers' practices

Inquiry-Based Learning

PROMOTING STUDENT-CENTRED APPROACHES like the Inquiry Based Science Education approach to better facilitate the teachers in addressing underachievement in basics skills of math, science and literacy as well as improving effectively students’ problem solving skills.

Interdisciplinary Learning

PROMOTING A HOLISTIC INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH for teaching science in schools based on innovative teaching methods like the ‘Big Ideas of Science’ also fostering collaboration between teachers of different science disciplines.

Innovative ICT educational tools

SUPPORT THE USE OF ONLINE EDUCATIONAL TOOLS through well-structured educational activities, thus supporting teachers in modernizing their teaching skills and bringing them up to speed with students’ needs and interests.

Collaborative activities

SUPPORT THE MEANINGFUL COLLABORATION BETWEEN TEACHERS OF THE SAME SCHOOL by enhancing their current teaching practices, making them more effective and better tailored to the needs of students.
